Writing

The kids are writing small moment stories.  These are true stories about things that have happened to them.  They learned different ideas for generating ideas for narratives and are now working on turning thier stories into "real" stories with a setting, action, and dialogue.  I love how much most of the class seems to enjoy writing.  They always have a story to tell me so now it's trying to convience them to write those stories.  One thing they are learning is that the more time a story is told the more it is developed.  Family members beware they may want to tell you their stories over and over and since it's actually for school you MUST listen (wink and smile).

This past week

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything.  At the beginning of this week students took their beginning year benchmarks.  We are currently still assessing fluency and taking DRAs.  We will finish those this week.  I should be able to send home benchmark scores and DRA levels on Monday, September 12.  I was hoping to complete them sooner, but I'd rather give students time to get settled into school than rushing everything.

I am so pleased with how respectful this class is as a whole.  They are kind to one another and very helpful.  I am also very pleased with how neat and organized everyone.  They leave the classroom neat and orderly each afternoon.  I am knocking on wood that these behaviors continue through the year.
